Credit unions make list of best workplaces

April 23, 2007

Two credit unions and a provincial central are on the latest list of top 50 workplaces in Canada.

Vancity, Windsor Family and SaskCentral all made the list compiled by the Great Places to Work Institute Canada.

Vancity led the list last year, the first year this survey was made public. This year it ranked sixth, while SaskCentral was 13th and Windsor Family placed 17th.  The full list of companies appears in the April 23 edition of Canadian Business magazine.

The magazine said that management at the top companies “forge a workplace culture of respect, fairness, camaraderie and, above all trust.”

“Our board of directors, for many years has made a commitment to a policy of leading edge human resources and compensation practices while at the same time providing every employee at Windsor Family with the opportunity to play a role and be recognized for their contributions,” said Marty Komsa, president and CEO of Windsor Family.

The list is based on two criteria:
• Two-thirds of the score is based on a 57-statement survey that is completed by a random selection of employees and their comments on the organization
• The other third is based on an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of its human resource policies and procedures.

Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great workplace: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
