Former President & Chief Executive Officer of Credit Union Central of Ontario (now Central 1 Credit Union), Howard Bogach has been a strong voice for the Canadian credit union system for over 20 years. His charming personality, sense of humour and ability to inspire staff, colleagues and even competitors has earned him great respect.
After working five years with the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation in Alberta as Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Bogach quickly made his mark within the credit union system. Soon afterwards, he spent two years as Vice President, Capital City Savings and Credit Union in Edmonton (now known as Servus Credit Union). In 1994, he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer at Metro Credit Union in Toronto (now Alterna Savings and Credit Union) and remained in this capacity for ten years. In June 2004, he joined Credit Union Central of Ontario as President & Chief Executive Officer.
Throughout his career, Mr. Bogach demonstrated great strengths in building consensus, working for change, and enhancing profitability which proved he wasn't just about the job description. His dedication and passion for the credit union system have proven to be significant factors to the growth and the success of the system in Canada today.
On the national level, Mr. Bogach joined Credit Union Central of Canada's Board and served as, Director from 2004 through to his retirement in 2008. He served on the Governance and Human Resources Committee from 2006 to 2008 and served as 2nd Vice-Chairperson of the Board between 2006 and 2007. During his tenure, one of his significant contributions was as Chair of the Chip Strategy Task Force. This task force initiated national credit union system planning for the movement to chip cards. In addition, Mr. Bogach was the Chair of Credential Financial and Director of Ethical Funds Inc. and Homebank Inc. Boards.
Mr. Bogach brought vision and passion to all his work which is best exemplified in the historic merger of Credit Union Centrals of Ontario and British Columbia. His tenacity speaks volumes, his leadership inspires and his professionalism motivates. There is no doubt that his legacy will continue to live on in the credit union system.
