2001 Hall of Fame Inductees

A. Rod Glen

Mr. Glen was a past Chairperson of B.C. Central's Board, and President and CEO of Nanaimo District Credit Union for 26 years. First introduced to the cooperative concept at the age of 20, Mr. Glen was instrumental in the founding of the National Association of Canadian Credit Unions in 1958.

During his career, Rod Glen also served on the Boards of Credit Union Central of British Columbia, NACCU, the Canadian Co-operative Credit Society (now Credit Union Central of Canada), the World Council of Credit Unions, CUNA Supply Corporation and ICU Services Corporation-and in many cases chaired these Boards at one time or another. He served as President of CUNA International, WOCCU's predecessor, from 1966-1968, the first non-American to achieve that rank. During that time he was involved in the restructuring of CUNA International to WOCCU.

In addition, he also made numerous contributions to civic and municipal organizations in his hometown of Nanaimo, B.C. and has the distinction of being only one of nine people in the more than 100 year history of Nanaimo to be honoured with the designation of 'Freeman'.

Norman Bromberger

Mr. Bromberger began his involvement with credit unions in 1966, when he was named Director of the Credit Union Research Council. Provincially, in addition to being CEO of Saskatchewan Central from 1973-1993, he has been a director of Co-operators Data Services Limited; a director, as well as CEO under a management contract, of Co-operative Trust Company of Canada; a director and chairman of CUETS; and vice chairman of the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation, to name a few.

Nationally, he has been on the Boards of the Canadian Payments Association, the Canadian Co-operative Association, Canadian Central, the National Association of Canadian Credit Unions and Northland Bank. He has also been a member of the Economic Council of Canada, and the Advisory Committee to Minister of State for Finance on Regulation of Financial Institutions, as well as serving on the Boards various other organizations such as the Regina General Hospital and the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club.

He also played a significant role in the Royal Commission Briefs on Banking and Finance. In addition to all of this, Mr. Bromberger is author of the book, "Conflict and Co-operation".
