Mr. Vinek began his 37-year credit union career at Coronach Credit Union in 1962. He also served as General Manager of Lloydminster Credit Union in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. Under his management, Lloydminster Credit Union grew from the 10th to the 4th largest credit union in Saskatchwan and the 31st largest in Canada with a membership exceeding 20,000.

Mr. Vinek was elected President of Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan in 1979, and became the youngest Board Member to serve on Saskatchewan Central's Board as well as its youngest President. He was a member of the Legislative Committee, Chair of the Equity Policy Committee and a member of the Provincial Marketing & Communications Committee.

Following his departure from Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan, he served on the Boards of the Canadian Co-operative Credit Society (now Credit Union Central of Canada) and the Co-operative Trust Company of Canada..
