As a passionate advocate of the credit union system both here in Canada and internationally, Wayne A. Nygren inspired leadership and was a living example of what the co-operative principles represent.
After working as an Economist with the Bank of Canada, he took a position in 1975 with Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan, where his passion for community-based organizations paved the way for his distinguished credit union career.
In 1981, Wayne joined Credit Union Central of British Columbia as Vice-President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer, and in 1985 was named Chief Executive Officer and stayed on as CEO until 2006. On the national level, Wayne joined Credit Union Central of Canada’s Board in 1988 and remained a director until his retirement in 2006.
Internationally, Wayne dedicated his time and talent to development projects in Eastern Europe, South-East Asia and South and Central America, for the World Council of Credit Unions, the Canadian Co-operative Association and CIDA.
Actively involved in the community, Wayne sat on the Board of various organizations and was recognized by his community for his effortless contributions.
