CU NextGen Intensive
A unique professional development experience exclusively for young and emerging
credit union leaders.
The CU NextGen Intensive is an exciting leadership development program
hosted by the National Young Leaders Committee of Credit Union Central of
Canada. It provides Canadian credit unions with a unique opportunity to
develop their young and emerging leaders by preparing them to be the
next future decision makers in our system.
The CU NextGen Intensive is a three day, immersive leadership development
workshop. The Intensive begins with a Strategic Thinking HMM Café and over
the next 72 hours, CU NextGen participants from across Canada will be
exposed to professional development experts as they interact in focused,
hands-on experiential workshops. Attendees will participate in simulated
executive management experiences and develop skills they can apply to
strategic planning and personal leadership. A managed cohort size gives
participants personal access to workshop leaders, facilitates networking and
leverages peer learning through rapid relationship building with other
future system leaders.
Prior to attending the Intensive, it is recommended that participants will
work through the Strategic Thinking Harvard ManageMentor module.
The Harvard ManageMentor (HMM) series, offered through CUSOURCE Credit Union
Knowledge Network, is a collection of on-demand, web-based modules that
deliver high-impact enterprise learning for critical management and
leadership skills. All CU NextGen participants will have access to all 44
modules to complete on their own time.
High Value Professional Development
With development dollars in high demand, it is critical that credit unions
realize a high return on their training investment. The CU NextGen Intensive
delivers by:
Providing Canadian credit unions with an exclusive, cost effective
opportunity to develop their young and emerging leaders in the key learning
areas identified by credit union executives as imperative to future
success; including strategic thinking, change management and personal
leadership
Building on the resources currently provided by CUSOURCE Knowledge Network,
thus leveraging learning programs already in use and enhancing their impact
Creating a unique experience for young credit union leaders to network and
build professional relationships with peers from across the country;
expanding their understanding of the credit union system beyond their
immediate credit union, or provincial borders
The CU NextGen Intensive Program
Day 1 – Sunday –
Put Your “Strategic Thinking” Cap On!
Starting in the
afternoon, we will kick off our 3 days with a professionally facilitated HMM
café session for participants to discuss and examine the Strategic Thinking
HMM module. Participants will learn what strategic thinking is, recognize
personal traits, behaviors and cognitive capacities that strategic thinkers
demonstrate and learn the skills required to be successful at applying strategic
thinking as a process.
In the evening, attendees will
participate in a fun networking event. The event allows participants to meet
fellow leaders from across Canada.
Day 2 – Monday –
What’s in a “Strategy”?
The day will focus on learning about
what goes into an executive strategic planning session; including techniques,
tools and processes. Hands on, experiential learning and case studies will
increase participants’ ability to apply their new skills at their own credit
union and prepare our future leaders to move into decision making roles. In the
evening of day two, participants will have the opportunity to hear from and
engage with experienced leaders.
The evening will include a
Leadership panel discussion followed by a wine and cheese networking event.
Day 3 - Tuesday –
What’s my personal leadership strategy?
It’s time to get
personal…. As the final activity, participants will explore their personal
leadership skills and attributes. Through an interactive session, participants
will be challenged to think about how they can continue to develop their
leadership skills, while building in value and purpose into the work they do
each day.
Investment
Working in
partnership with the University of Saskatchewan, Centre for Co-operative
Studies, CUSOURCE Knowledge Network and Credit Union Central of Canada, the
